Some Prohibitions in Islam
- Adultery: Allah the Exalted says: (Do not come near to adultery, for it is a shameful deed and an evil path) (17:32)
- Privacy with strange women: Some of the ways of Satan is to put people on filthy things such as privacy with strange women. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: (Don’t let a man stay with a woman, for Satan is the third one). (Muslim).
- Wearing short, thin and tight clothes for women: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said (I will not be a witness for two types of people who are destined for fire; people with whips like cow’s tail who beat people, and women who although are clothed but are naked, seducing and being seduced, their hair styled like the tilted humps of Bactrian camels. These will not enter the Garden or smell its fragrance). (Muslim).
- Stealing: Allah the Exalted says: (As for the male and female thief, cut off their hands-a fitting response for what they have earned and exemplary punishment from Allah. And Allah is Almighty, All Wise). (5:38)
- Bribery: Giving an amount to hide the truth and making falsehood as the truth. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Allah the Exalted, cursed the one who gives and accept bribe). (Sahih)
- Drinking Wine: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Allah has vowed to the one who drank intoxicating drinks that He the Exalted give him the sweat of the inhabitants of the fire to drink).
- Listening to songs and musical instrument: Allah the Exalted says: (And among men are those who prefer idle talk, to lead men away from the path of Allah) (31:6) Abdullah Bin Mas’ood commenting on this verse, “Idle talk” is referred to in this verse to singing.
- Backbiting and Slander: Backbiting is mentioning your brother behind his back. Allah the Exalted says: (And do not backbite one another. Would anyone like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it. So hate backbiting) (49:12) Slandering is the spreading of corruption and immorality, and defaming someone with lies. Allah the Exalted says: (Obey not every man, swearer, a slanderer, going about with calumnies) (68:10-11).
- Trimming or Shaving the Beard: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: (Trim your mustache and let your beard grow). (Bukhari)
- Trailing One’s Garment: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: (The part of the lower garment which goes below the ankles is in fire. If he trails his lower garment out of pride he will suffer a grievous punishment). (Sahih Al-Jaami)
